OpenTable Diner (México)·Dined on April 26, 2017Open table provided the reservation. We were seated right away. The waiter asked if we had ever dined at Bencotto before, which we had not. That should have been the first clue to explain their unique menu. We bumbled our way through the menu, ordered some food. The food was not what we were expecting. It was good, just way different that our experience. I am sure the food was authentic, and that may have added to our confusion. But I but bad marks because the waiter could have spent a wee more time with us.Dining Occasion:DateWas this review useful to you?Yes·No·Reportfood4ambience2service2value3

Had a great meal at Bencotto while traveling for business. The four of us enjoyed cocktails, wine, appetizer, and pasta. My pasta with cream sauce was a little too saucy and heavy but delicious. Everyone else loved their entrees. Great architecture and vibe.

Bencotto is still good, but not as good as a few years ago. The prices have gone up quite a bit, to the point where basic marinara and meatballs is $25+ which is waaaaay too much. The bread is still pretty good, but they put too much olive oil in with the balsamic vinegar and it makes it really hard to get any on the bread, which is too bad. Still worth coming here for special occasions, but not really more often than that because of the price increases.

vipSs456 (New England)·Dined on May 27, 2017On vacation. Food was good but we were rushed by the wait staff the whole time. Busboys clearing plates before everyone finished, etc. Place was half empty while we were there so don't understand why the rush to turn the table. Don't expect this at a high end expensive restaurant. We ate at several other Italian restaurants in the city and didn't experience this.Dining Occasion:Everyday DiningWas this review useful to you?Yes·No·Reportfood4ambience3service1value2

This is, hands down, my favorite Italian restaurant. I've been coming here for years, whenever business brings me to San Diego. Everything about this place is wonderful.

Worst Italian we have had in San Diego. Pasta sauces were flavorless, calamari dry, and nothing was properly seasoned. Best items were bread and olive oil, which were free. Overpriced at $24 for a plate of pasta that was worst than Olive Garden.
